"Registration as a charitable organization recognizes donor
generosity by making much-needed gifts to LAUNCH tax-deductible,"
said Dave Evans, LAUNCH founder and president. "Being recognized
as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization by the IRS will make it easier
for LAUNCH to raise funds, increasing our ability to help some of
Africa's neediest children," he said.
Boston-based law firm Goodwin Procter LLP, with the help of partner
Diane Currier and associate Laurie O'Donnell, provided the required
legal work on a pro bono basis, incorporating LAUNCH in 2002 and
securing the necessary IRS approvals.
"Goodwin Procter is proud to support LAUNCH and other organizations
that provide essential services and support to individuals and communities
around the globe," O'Donnell said. "We are pleased to
have played a role in this important initiative."
LAUNCH is committed to helping needy children of both the Kingdom
of Lesotho and Alexandra Township, South Africa, grow into healthy,
educated, principled and self-reliant adults. The organization's
unique model is based on establishing profound one-to-one relationships.
Providing scholarships, personal guidance and assistance such as
food, shelter, clothing and medicine, LAUNCH helps children overcome
the debilitating conditions that prevail in their communities.
